Japan Supports the People with Disabilities to Access Public Space by Installing Assistive Facilities
\n in the Northern Governorates through Grassroots Assistance<\/strong><\/i><\/p><\/div>\n

Today, on December l', 2014, the signing ceremony was held in the Representative Office of Japan to the PA in Ramallah for the project for "Enhancing the Communal Support for People with Disabilities in the Northern Area of the West Bank". The contract was signed by Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador for the Palestinian Affairs and the Representative of Japan to the PA and Mr. Nader Abu Amsha, Director of East Jerusalem Young Men Christian Association (YMCA) —Rehabilitation. This project is funded by the Government of Japan through the Japan's Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).<\/p><\/div>\n

A grant of US $ 93,613 is extended for the East Jerusalem YMCA —Rehabilitation Program to install the assistive facilities for people with disabilities to easily access 14 public institutions such as public schools, health centers and educational directorates in Jenin, Tubas, Tulkarem and Nablus governorate. In addition to that, EJYMCA-RP will raise awareness among the people in the community about the rights of people with disabilities and promote the sustainable communal movement to integrate them into the society through conducting several workshops.<\/p><\/div>\n

Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan's firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.5 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through MoPAD since 2010.<\/p><\/div>\n
