This document contains the recommendation made by the Executive Board at its 147th session for the attention of the General Conference at its twenty-eighth session concerning this item of the agenda.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>The Executive Board, having examined document 147 EX\/13, submits to the General Conference for adoption the following resolution:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tThe General Conference,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t1.\t<\/span>Having examined<\/u> document 28 C\/15,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t2.\t<\/span>Congratulates<\/u> the Director-General on having ensured the full implementation of 27 C\/Resolution 18 and of 144 EX\/Decision 4.2.1, 145 EX\/Decision 5.2.1, and 146 EX\/Decision 5.2.1 of the Executive Board;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t3.\t<\/span>Welcomes<\/u> the progress achieved in the peace process between the Israeli Government and the Palestinian Authority, which opens up a more significant new era of peace and harmony;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t4.\t<\/span>Expresses<\/u> the hope that the negotiations in the peace process, between the other Arab parties concerned and Israel, will lead rapidly to a global peace, based on the withdrawal of Israel from the occupied Arab territories in conformity with resolutions 242 and 338 of the United Nations Security Council;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t5.\t<\/span>Emphasizes<\/u> the necessity of enhancing the capacity building of all the ‘Ministries’ of the Palestinian Authority within UNESCO’s fields of competence;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t6.\t<\/span>Notes with satisfaction<\/u> the progress achieved in the implementation of the projects financed by France, Germany, Italy, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Norway and, from the private sector, Daimler-Benz, and thanks them for their generous contribution;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t7.\t<\/span>Stresses<\/u> the importance that should be attached to ensuring an appropriate and effective follow-up and monitoring of UNESCO’s activities in the field and to strengthening the role of the Local Aid Co-ordinating Committee of the United Nations system;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t8.\t<\/span>Welcomes<\/u> the Director-General’s initiative to envisage the setting-up of a UNESCO unit in the field to monitor the Organization’s activities and to ensure co-ordination with other United Nations agencies;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t9.\t<\/span>Invites<\/u> the Director-General to continue his efforts with regard to occupied Syrian Golan, within the framework of the Executive Board decisions;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t10.\t<\/span>Also invites<\/u> the Director-General to launch an appeal to Member States, financial institutions and the private sector to contribute to the financing of the UNESCO\/PAPP projects, the scholarship fund and further proposals based on evolving requirements in the light of the implementation of projects under the Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People (PAPP);\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t11.\t<\/span>Decides<\/u> to include this item on the agenda of its twenty-ninth session.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
