ICRC takes part in release of Palestinian detainees<\/p><\/div>\n

Acting as a neutral intermediary, the ICRC has taken part in the process of releasing 400 Palestinian detainees from Israeli places of detention and returning them to the West Bank and Gaza Strip. <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

On 31 May and 1 June, the organization's delegates conducted private interviews with all 400 detainees in order to confirm that each freely consented to the location of his\/her release. In particular, the ICRC strived to ensure that the desire of all those wishing to be taken to the place where their families lived would be respected. <\/p><\/div>\n

Today, ICRC delegates have been present at the various release locations (Tarqumiya, Beituniya, Tulkarm, Salem and Erez) to monitor the process. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

Under the Fourth Geneva Convention, the ICRC has since 1967 been visiting Israeli places of detention holding Palestinian detainees to monitor their treatment and living conditions. <\/p><\/div>\n
