Launching the Strategic Humanitarian Response Plan 2014-2016 <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

for State of Palestine <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Today, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator, Mr. James W. Rawley and H.E. Mr. Mohammad Abu Ramadan, Minister of State for Planning Affairs of the State of Palestine, launched the Strategic Humanitarian Response Plan (SRP) 2014 – 2016 for the State of Palestine).<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Humanitarian Response Plan targets 1.9 million Palestinians to be assisted by 65 UN agencies, and international and local non-governmental organizations (NGOs). Together, they are appealing for $390 million to implement 151 projects.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

“If we manage to mobilize the funding required for the Plan, we will be able to improve, or at least stabilize, the living conditions of vulnerable Palestinians,” said Mr. Rawley. “The proposed projects will improve food security and resilience through food aid and cash for work programmes, as well as through livelihood support to vulnerable herders, farmers and fishermen. Humanitarian agencies will also work to provide emergency shelter to displaced families, access to psycho-social care to those affected by violence, and legal assistance to those in need.. The most vulnerable communities will be provided with access to basic education, healthcare and safe, affordable and reliable water, sanitation and hygiene services. However, humanitarian action alone is not enough,” added Mr. Rawley. “We also need the support of political and development actors if we are to improve the lives of Palestinians in a meaningful way.”<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Policies imposed in the course of Israel’s occupation, alongside bouts of armed conflict, are two of the main drivers of humanitarian need. For this reason the Humanitarian Response Plan prioritizes the Gaza strip, East Jerusalem and Area C of the West Bank where Palestinians endure the hardest living conditions.<\/p><\/div>\n
