A U.S. funded program offers greater opportunities for the Palestinian youth<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Ramallah, WEST BANK<\/strong> – The United States government has awarded the Educational Development Center (EDC) $25 million for a program to empower Palestinian youth through increasing their learning and earning opportunities in the West Bank and Gaza. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The Ruwwad Palestinian Youth Empowerment Program, sponsored by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), will help thousands of young Palestinians to gain skills and knowledge that prepare them for active and productive roles in the society. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The inauguration of the program took place on Tuesday in Al Notre Dame Hotel in East Jerusalem with the USAID Mission Director James Bever and representatives of the Palestinian Authority. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The five-year program will engage the youth in a number of activities, such as apprenticeships and entrepreneurships, complimentary education opportunities, youth recreation programs, secondary school civic service programs, national youth policy development and media outreach activities. <\/p><\/div>\n

Ruwwad will be implemented by the Academy for Educational Development (AED), East Jerusalem YMCA, Youth Build, National Youth Employment Coalition (NYEC), together with EDC. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

The long-term goal of the program is to inspire and equip the young Palestinian men and women to become agents of positive change in the Palestinian society through their involvement in civil society, economic development, and communal life. <\/p><\/div>\n
