The Arab Group expresses concern about Al Aqsa Mosque <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

On 20 July, an Arab Group delegation paid a visit to the Director-General to express concern about the Al Aqsa Mosque.<\/p><\/div>\n

The delegation included H.E. Mrs. Zohour Alaoui, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Kingdom of Morocco to UNESCO and President of the Arab Group, H.E. Mr. Ziad Aldrees, Ambassador, Permanent Delegate of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to UNESCO and Vice Chairman of the Arab Group of the Executive Board, H.E. Mr. Nassif Hitti, Ambassador, Representative of the Arab League in France and Permanent Representative to UNESCO and Mr. Mounir Anastas, Deputy Permanent Delegate of Palestine to UNESCO. <\/p><\/div>\n

Representatives of the Arab Group took this opportunity to inform the Director-General that at a special meeting held on 19 July, the group had expressed its “rejection” and condemnation” of recent statements made by the Israeli Attorney General, Mr. Yehuda Feinstein, according to which “Al Aqsa Mosque is an integral part of Israeli territory,” as referenced under the terms of Israeli legislation regarding archaeological heritage. <\/p><\/div>\n

They also submitted to the Director-General a declaration refuting these statements on the basis of all relevant international resolutions of the UN and UNESCO.<\/p><\/div>\n
