As a follow-up to the Secretary General’s Tour :<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

An OIC Delegation undertakes contacts with the Palestinian Officials in Damascus and Palestine<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

                Within the framework of the efforts exerted by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) to contain the tension in the Palestinian street and to resume the Palestinian national dialogue such as to lead to the formation of a national unity government, and as a follow up to the tour undertaken to the same end by the OIC Secretary General, Prof. Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu during the second half of the month of December last, and during which he met in Rmallah with the Palestinian President, Mr. Mahmoud Abbas, in Gaza with the Prime Minister, Mr. Ismael Haniyeh and in Damascuss with the Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas movement, Mr Khaled Mishael, a delegation from the OIC led by Ambassador Mehdi Fathallah, representative of the OIC Secretary General, undertook a visit to Damscus and Palestine from 10 to 14 January 2007.  <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The delegation held meetings with Mr Khaled Mishael, Chairman of the Political Bureau of Hamas movement, Mr. Ruhi Fetouh, personal representative of the Palestinian President and Mr Ismaeil Haniyeh, Prime Minister.  These meetings were devoted for further consultations and exchange of views on the same subject.<\/p><\/div>\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

In light of the appreciation expressed by all the parties concerned and their profound satisfaction with the active role played by the Organization of the Islamic Conference regarding the Palestinian issue, the latter will press on with its efforts towards a rapprochement of views between the two movements, Fatah and Hamas, to restart their negotiation process.  Also, the Secretary General will continue his contacts with all the parties concerned with the Palestinian issue in favour of achieving these aspired goals.<\/p><\/div>\n
