{"id":200932,"date":"2013-09-16T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T18:04:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?p=200932"},"modified":"2019-03-12T18:04:45","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T18:04:45","slug":"auto-insert-200932","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/auto-insert-200932\/","title":{"rendered":"Palestinian households to be surveyed to collect data on Palestinian women and children &#8211; UNICEF press release"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n<div>\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\n<hr height=\"7px\" \/>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"padding-top:10px;font-size:10pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;color:#0041c2;padding-bottom:10px;text-align:left;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey 5 to roll out in the State of Palestine<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Ramallah, 16 September 2013 &#8211; Following a tripartite agreement, the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics of the State of Palestine, UNICEF and UNFPA will collect essential data about the situation of Palestinian children and women as part of the fifth round of the global Multiple Indicator Cluster Survey (MICS).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">MICS 5 will aim to survey around 11,000 households to produce statistically sound, internationally comparable estimates on issues related to child and maternal health; nutrition; education; water, sanitation and hygiene; child protection and HIV\/AIDS.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8220;MICS will provide the Palestinian Authority with national evidence-based information to guide our public policies and programming for the benefit of women and children,&#8221; said Ola Awad, President of PCBS.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">MICS data are collected in face-to-face interviews in nationally representative samples of households. The result is one of the world&#8217;s largest sources of statistical information on children and women.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8220;MICS is a crucial tool which will help shed the light on the most disadvantaged, vulnerable and marginalized children and women so they are not left behind in the global push to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) among other goals and commitments,&#8221; said June Kunugi, UNICEF Special Representative.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">MICS 5 will provide data at the national, regional and governorate levels which can be disaggregated by various social and demographic characteristics, including gender.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8220;UNFPA is pleased to join hands, once again, with UNICEF and PCBS to generate vital data to support evidence based programming and interventions that effectively benefit the Palestinian population.
