Opening Ceremony for the Rehabilitated Electricity Network in Salem Village<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Today, on 8th January, 2014, Mr. Junya Matsuura, Ambassador of Palestinian Affairs and Representative of Japan to the PA attended the opening ceremony of the project for "Rehabilitation and Extension of the Electric Network in Salem Village" in the presence of Mr. Adle Ishtayeh, Mayor of Salem Village Council, in addition to representatives from local authorities and institutions. The project was funded by the Government of Japan in March 2013, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).<\/p><\/div>\n

Salem Village Council has used the grant of $121,870 to provide safe and sufficient supply of electricity for the people in Salem Village. This has been done by replacing 4700 meters of the most harmful parts of the existing wires with new cables and also by extending new 5000 meters to the districts where large numbers of households used to live without the regular electricity supply.<\/p><\/div>\n

Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan's firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.<\/p><\/div>\n

Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.34 billion, to the Palestinians. GGP projects have been formulated in collaboration with the Palestinian Authority through MoPAD since 2010.<\/p><\/div>\n
