The project was funded by the Government of Japan in March 2013, through its Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Salem Village Council has used the grant of $121,870 to provide safe and sufficient supply of electricity for the people in Salem Village. This has been done by replacing 4700 meters of the most harmful parts of the existing wires with new cables and also by extending new 5000 meters to the districts where large numbers of households used to live without the regular electricity supply.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Mr. Matsuura in his speech emphasized Japan&#39;s firm commitment of supporting Palestinian people from human security perspective as well as the importance of implementing social and economic development projects needed for Palestinian communities.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Verdana, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Since 1993 the Government of Japan has extended its official development assistance exceeding $1.34 billion, to the Palestinians.
