{"id":199986,"date":"2008-10-15T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-12T17:53:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?p=199986"},"modified":"2019-03-12T17:53:11","modified_gmt":"2019-03-12T17:53:11","slug":"auto-insert-199986","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/auto-insert-199986\/","title":{"rendered":"German-funded school in Homs refugee camp (Syria) opened &#8211; UNRWA press release"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<div>\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">\n<hr height=\"7px\" \/>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:right;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>Press Release No 23\/2008<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:right;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>15 October 2008<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:11pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>UNRWA Opens German-Funded School in Homs Camp<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The Ambassador of Germany to Syria, Dr. Andreas Reinicke, inaugurated today a new school building in Homs Camp, which was constructed and equipped through a contribution of US$ 456,100 from the German government.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The school, which is one of 119 schools run by UNRWA in Syria, will operate in two shifts, and will provide basic education for 709 students. <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Referring to the donation, Karen AbuZayd, Commissioner-General of UNRWA, commented, &quot;I would like to extend my deepest appreciation to the Government of Germany for its generous contributions, which continues this important partnership with UNRWA.&quot; <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&quot;This facility is yet another demonstration of the continued firm support of the German government of Palestine refugees and UNRWA&#8217;s services to them,&quot; said Ambassador Reinicke.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&quot;We stress anew the necessity for the Agency to continue its work and provide its services to Palestine refugees until a just and peaceful solution is found,&quot; said Ali Mustafa, Director-General of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees (GAPAR), while also thanking the German government for its contribution.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Ambassador Reinicke and Ms. AbuZayd along with Mr. Mustafa toured the school and planted a number of olive trees. <\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:10pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">UNRWA is a humanitarian and human development agency providing education, health care, social services, micro-credit and emergency relief to up to 4.6 million registered refugees living in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic.
