UNRWA and the Salam Ya Sughar Fund (SYS) sign a $ 3 million
\ncooperation agreement to feed Gaza refugee children<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\nToday, Mr Peter Ford, the Representative of UNRWA’s Commissioner-General, has signed an agreement with Salam Ya Sughar’s Representative Mr. Tarek Zaghloul Abdelghani Kotb, to provide supplementary school feeding to 110,000 school children in Gaza for five months. This is the first agreement signed between the two institutions.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\nSYS is a Fund created through an initiative of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs, and wife of His Highness, Dr Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Ruler of Sharjah and Member of the Supreme Council of the United Arab Emirates. SYS has raised $22 million for children of Palestine from the Sharjah population and civil society, in addition to personal donations from the ruling family.<\/p><\/div>\n

\nUNRWA’s Commissioner-General welcomed this first contribution by a new Arab donor which will kick start a programme aiming at providing minimum daily food needs to children and helping them improve their school results. “Difficult conditions in Gaza have had disastrous effects on children at school” she said. “Through this project, SYS is helping them strengthen their learning capacity. This project will have a very positive impact of the lives on thousands in Gaza”.<\/p><\/div>\n
