The heaters were presented to the school by His Excellency Col. (Rtd.) Nooradin Haji Ya&#8217;akob, Ambassador of Brunei to Jordan, on 14 February 2016. <\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">&#8220;I am really honoured to be in the school again today,&#8221; said the Ambassador during his visit. &#8220;During my first visit to the school, the cold during the winter and the hot temperatures during the summer that the children have to endure were at the top of the agenda of the school&#8217;s teaching staff. Today, we donated gas heaters to make the classroom environment more comfortable in the winter for the children and staff alike. In the summer, we will donate shades to protect the children from sun.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">Omar, a student in the third grade at Nazzal Elementary School, addressed the Ambassador, saying: &#8220;I am excited. Now I can take my jacket off inside the classroom. It is always cold in the classroom, especially in the morning.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">The Director of UNRWA Operations in Jordan Field, Roger Davies, welcomed the donation, saying: &#8220;We are grateful to His Excellency. This contribution represents the commitment of the Government of Brunei and its people towards Palestine refugees. It is important for Palestine refugees to see donor representatives among them, to know that they are not forgotten and that the international community still cares.&#8221;<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong>BACKGROUND INFORMATION<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">UNRWA is confronted with an increased demand for services resulting from a growth in the number of registered Palestine refugees, the extent of their vulnerability and their deepening poverty. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions and financial support has been outpaced by the growth in needs. As a result, the UNRWA Programme Budget, which supports the delivery of core essential services, operates with a large shortfall,&nbsp;&nbsp;projected for 2016 to stand at US$ 81 million. UNRWA emergency programmes and key projects, also operating with large shortfalls, are funded through separate funding portals.<\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;padding-bottom:4px;font-size:8pt;font-family:Arial, san-serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and mandated to provide assistance and protection to some 5 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip achieve their full human development potential, pending a just and lasting solution to their plight.
