“Green Camp” Campaign in Syria<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA today launched its “Green Camp” campaign in Syria. Joining children with special needs at Jarmaq school in Yarmouk in planting the first 100 trees, Deputy Commissioner-General, Filippo Grandi, stated: “This tree-planting reflects the solidarity of the Palestine refugees and their commitment to improving their communities.” This event marks the beginning of a wider campaign in which refugees will plant some 5000 trees donated by the Ministry of Agriculture around Agency’s premises and facilities throughout the country. <\/p><\/div>\n

Thanking the Syrian government, Mr. Grandi noted the government’s continued support of UNRWA and its strong commitment to Palestine refugees, highlighted by the donation of the trees which were planted in the Yarmouk camp. <\/p><\/div>\n

The tree-planting ceremony comes at the end of Mr. Grandi’s three-day visit to Syria. During his time in the country, the Deputy Commissioner-General met with the governor of Dera’a and high-ranking Syrian officials. He also visited UNRWA installations in the Dera’a Palestine refugee camp. <\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA is a humanitarian and human development Agency providing education, health care, social services, micro-credit and emergency relief to over 4 million registered refugees living in the Gaza Strip, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic. In Syria, the Agency provides assistance to over 440,000 Palestine refugees. <\/p><\/div>\n
