Spain announces a contribution of 36 million euros at Donor Conference on Palestine Held today in Cairo<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The Secretary of State for Latin American Affairs and International Development Cooperation, Jesús Gracia, announced Spain's contribution of 36 million euros to Palestine over the 2014-2017 period at the Donor Conference on Palestine and the Recovery of Gaza held today in Cairo. Of this amount, at least 50% will be used on the recovery and reconstruction of Gaza.<\/p><\/div>\n

The Conference was organised to gather support and financing for the “Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza Plan” drawn up by the Palestinian National Authority and to be implemented over the 2014-2017 period.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The Spanish contribution will be channelled through collaboration with Palestinian institutions, non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and the Palestinian-European Socio-Economic Management Assistance Mechanism (PEGASE).<\/p><\/div>\n

In 2014, Spain will contribute approximately 7.8 million euros to development aid through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID). Of that total, UNRWA will receive one million euros in Spanish development aid. This money will be particularly aimed at offering a response to the needs of the refugee population in Gaza and added to those funds already received in July 2014.<\/p><\/div>\n

Through the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID), Spanish development aid has so far contributed a total of 3,178,000 euros in response to the humanitarian crisis in Gaza.<\/p><\/div>\n

Spain has traditionally maintained a strong bond of solidarity with the people of Palestine and has been one of the lea12\/10\/2014ding donors in terms of Official Development Aid (ODA), contributing approximately 600 million euros since 2005. The ongoing nature of this commitment will be formalised during the course of this year as plans are in place to sign the first Country Partnership Framework between Spain and the Palestinian National Authority, thereby ratifying the cooperation partnership between the two countries for the years ahead.<\/p><\/div>\n
