Statement from the Foreign Secretary Margaret Beckett in response to the signing of an agreement between Hamas and Fatah on Thursday evening; <\/p>\n

'We welcome the ongoing efforts to end the violence and promote intra-Palestinian reconciliation. <\/p>\n

'We particularly welcome the efforts by Saudi Arabia and King Abdullah to try and achieve this. <\/p>\n

'Tonight's news from Mecca is an interesting and important development. <\/p>\n
