UNRWA Commissioner-General Visits Syria<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Commissioner-General Karen Koning AbuZayd will arrive in Syria on 13 October on a four-day visit that will include high-level meetings and visits.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

During her mission, Ms. AbuZayd will meet with Syrian government officials to update them on UNRWA’s work; she will also give an interview to the Syrian TV.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Ms. AbuZayd will launch UNRWA's "Violence-Free Schools" campaign in Syria, and open new school buildings in Homs and Khan Eshieh Camps. She will also promote field efforts to enhance employability and economic self-sufficiency of refugees and brief donors and UN agencies on UNRWA’s operations and latest challenges region-wide.<\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA is a humanitarian and human development agency providing education, health care, social services, micro-credit and emergency relief to over 4.6 million registered refugees living in the Gaza, West Bank, Jordan, Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic. In Syria, the Agency provides assistance to over 450,000 refugees.<\/p><\/div>\n
