The people of Asturias support the most vulnerable people of Gaza through the UNRWA’s Emergency Food Aid Program<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

Gaza, 21st September, 2008: On 14 December 2007, the Government of Asturias and UNRWA concluded a letter of Agreement, according to which the Asturian Government pledged EURO 130,000 (US$ 192,308) towards the Agency’s Emergency Food Aid Programmes in the Gaza Strip. On 28 February 2008, the Agency received this generous contribution.<\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA’s emergency food aid targets families facing severe economic problems, with distributions designed to cover food needs that refugees cannot acquire through their own means. Parcels include flour, rice, sugar, luncheon meat, whole milk and sunflower oil. In Gaza each family will receive a single parcel, in accordance with its size.<\/p><\/div>\n

This contribution from the Government of Asturias covered the cost of purchasing a total of 308.333 MT of wheat flour distributed under the first round to approximately 10,203 persons (~ 2130 refugee families).<\/p><\/div>\n

The beneficiaries in Gaza expressed their gratitude to the people and government of Asturias. “We are living in devastating austerity here in Gaza, and this food assistance comes at a time when we most need it. This donation demonstrates that we are all brothers and sisters in humanity. We are grateful to the people of Asturias”, said Assad Abdo, head of a family of 8 persons in Gaza’s Beach camp.<\/p><\/div>\n
