7 March 2006 <\/i>– <\/i>Terming yesterday “a sad day” for the children of Gaza after five were killed in conflict-related incidents, the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) today called for all efforts to be made to protect youngsters from violence and to guarantee their rights to education, health and play. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

“The events of Monday starkly illustrate how children are impacted in many ways by the conflict,” UNICEF said in a statement. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Two brothers, aged 14 and 15, were killed when they were exposed to an unexploded device in a pond south of Gaza City, and two other brothers, aged 11 and 15, and a 14-year-old boy were killed as bystanders during an air attack, bringing the year's death toll of Palestinian children in conflict-related violence to 11. <\/p><\/div>\n
