Vladimir Putin held a telephone conversation with Mahmoud Abbas, head of the Palestinian National Authority.<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

In the context of an important event – Israeli withdrawal from the Gaza strip – the Palestinian leader informed the Russian President on the situation in the Middle East.<\/p><\/div>\n

Vladimir Putin expressed his satisfaction that Israelis and Palestinians are engaged in constant dialogue, which favours both the peace process and the resolution of any problems that might arise.  He expressed high esteem for M. Abbas' appeal to the Palestinian population to keep order and to refrain from any kind of provocation.  <\/p><\/div>\n

Mr Abbas emphasized Russia's important role in the Middle-Eastern peace process.  <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

During the discussion, the practical aspects of providing the Palestinian National Authority with external and, more particularly, Russian help were discussed.  <\/p><\/div>\n
