Japan has donated US$10 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). The money will support UNRWA’s provision of education, health and social services to refugees in the occupied Palestinian territory. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

 <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Japan’s ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, and UNRWA Commissioner-General, Filippo Grandi, announced the new funding during a visit to the Women's Programme Centre at Jabal el-Hussein refugee camp in Amman today.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Japan’s donation will help fund the Agency’s 335 schools in the occupied Palestinian territory, where UNRWA provides nine years of free education to registered refugee children. Education is the largest UNRWA programme, accounting for more than half of the Agency’s budget. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

The money will also fund maternal and child health services, including the Agency’s school health programme, along with social services programmes for women, children and young people. US$ 6.8 million will support projects in Gaza, with the remaining US$ 3.2 million allocated to the West Bank. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Mr Grandi said: “This generous contribution allows us to continue to educate almost 270,000 refugee children in our schools in Gaza and the West Bank, and provide health and social services to this particularly vulnerable population. We thank the government and people of Japan for this crucial support for refugees in the occupied Palestinian territory, who are living under extremely difficult conditions.”<\/p><\/div>\n

The Japanese Ambassador, H.E. Mr. Tetsuo Shioguchi, said: “Japan is very concerned about the impact of UNRWA’s serious financial crisis and hopes this grant will contribute to alleviating the hardship of Palestine refugees. Japan will continue to support education and primary health care because we have the strong belief that the Palestinian children hold the future of Palestine in their hands.”<\/p><\/div>\n

Japan has been a consistent supporter of UNRWA. Japan’s assistance to the Palestine refugees through UNRWA, which began in 1953, has amounted to more than US$ 600 million.<\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA provides assistance, protection and advocacy for some 4.7 million registered Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria and the occupied Palestinian territory, pending a solution to their plight. The Agency’s services encompass education, health care, social safety-net, camp infrastructure and improvement, community support, microfinance and emergency response, including in times of armed conflict. <\/p><\/div>\n

UNRWA is funded almost entirely by contributions from States. The Agency’s core budget for 2010-2011 stands at $1.23 billion. In 2009, emergency appeals for the West Bank, Gaza and Lebanon amounted to $827.4 million.<\/p><\/div>\n

اليابان تتبرع بعشرة ملايين دولار لبرامج التعليم والصحة<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

للاجئين الفلسطينيين في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

عمّان- قدمت اليابان للأونروا تبرعاً بقيمة عشرة ملايين دولار أمريكي سيتم استخدامها لدعم برامج التعليم والصحة والخدمات الاجتماعية للاجئين في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة. وقد تم الإعلان عن هذا التبرع صباح اليوم خلال زيارة قام بها السفير الياباني في عمّان سعادة السيد تيتسو شيوجوتشي والمفوض العام للأونروا السيد فيليبو جراندي لمركز البرامج النسائية في مخيم الحسين.<\/p><\/div>\n

ويساعد هذا التبرع في تمويل 335 مدرسة تابعة للوكالة في الأراضي الفلسطينية حيث توفر الوكالة التعليم الأساسي لمدة تسع سنوات لأبناء اللاجئين الفلسطينيين. ويعتبر برنامج التعليم أكبر برامج الأونروا حيث أنه يستحوذ على أكثر من نصف ميزانيتها. <\/p><\/div>\n

كما سيتم استخدام المبلغ أيضاً لتمويل خدمات صحة الأمومة والطفولة وبرنامج الصحة المدرسية، إضافة إلى الخدمات الاجتماعية التي تقدمها الوكالة للنساء والأطفال والشباب.  وسيتم إنفاق ما قيمته 6.8 مليون دولار أمريكي لدعم المشاريع في غزة، فيما سيتم تخصيص المبلغ الباقي وقيمته 3.2 مليون دولار أمريكي للضفة الغربية.<\/p><\/div>\n

وقال السيد جراندي "إن هذا التبرع السخي سيمكننا من مواصلة تعليم حوالي 270,000 طالب وطالبة في مدارسنا في الضفة الغربية وقطاع غزة، وسيوفر خدمات صحية واجتماعية لهذه الشرائح السكانية التي هي بحاجة ماسة لمثل هذه الخدمات. إننا نشكر حكومة اليابان وشعبها على هذا الدعم الجوهري للاجئين في الأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة الذين يعيشون في ظل أوضاع صعبة للغاية".<\/p><\/div>\n

وقال السفير الياباني تيتسو شيوجوتشي "أن اليابان تشعر بالقلق إزاء انعكاسات الأزمة المالية الحادة التي تعاني منها الوكالة وأن اليابان تأمل بأن يساهم هذا التبرع في تخفيف معاناة اللاجئين الفلسطينيين. وستواصل اليابان دعم برامج التعليم والرعاية الصحية الأولية انطلاقا من إيماننا الراسخ بأن مستقبل فلسطين هو في أيدي أبناء اللاجئين الفلسطينيين".<\/p><\/div>\n

وتعتبر اليابان من الدول التي دأبت على توفير دعم متواصل للأونروا حيث بلغ ما قدمته من تبرعات لصالح اللاجئين الفلسطينيين منذ عام 1953 وحتى الآن ما يقارب 600 مليون دولار أمريكي. <\/p><\/div>\n

تعمل الأونروا على تقديم المساعدة والحماية للاجئين الفلسطينيين في الأردن ولبنان وسورية والأراضي الفلسطينية المحتلة وذلك إلى أن يتم التوصل إلى حل عادل ودائم لمحنتهم. وهي تقوم بذلك من خلال تقديم عدد من خدمات التنمية البشرية والخدمات الإنسانية لما يقارب من 4,7 مليون لاجئ وذلك في مجالات التعليم الأساسي والمهني وخدمات الرعاية الصحية الأولية وشبكة الأمان الاجتماعي وخدمات المساندة المجتمعية وتطوير المخيمات والبنية التحتية، علاوة على خدمات التمويل الصغير والاستجابة الطارئة، بما في ذلك حالات النزاع المسلح. كما أن دور الأونروا يشمل أيضا مجالات كسب التأييد واتخاذ الإجراءات الكفيلة بالتعامل مع مسائل حقوق الإنسان واحتياجات الحماية للاجئين الفلسطينيين.<\/p><\/div>\n

وتحصل الأونروا على تمويلها بالكامل تقريبا من خلال التبرعات الطوعية التي تقدمها الدول الأعضاء في الأمم المتحدة. وتبلغ الميزانية المركزية للأونروا للعامين 2010 – 2011 ما يعادل 1,23 مليار دولار.<\/p><\/div>\n
