PRESS BRIEFING BY UN LEGAL COUNSEL<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

The past 10 years had been a remarkable time in the field of international law and in the Organization’s history, the Under-Secretary-General for Legal Affairs and United Nations Legal Counsel, Hans Corell, told correspondents at a Headquarters wrap-up press briefing today.<\/p><\/div>\n

Responding to questions on the matter of Israel’s construction of the barrier before the International Court of Justice (ICJ), he said his Office had provided the ICJ with material as requested by the Court in all cases where the Court was asked to give an advisory opinion.  It was an outflow of the General Assembly resolution.  The Secretary-General decided that the Organization would not appear before the Court during the oral arguments.  As the matter was before the Court, it would be inappropriate for him to comment on it.<\/p><\/div>\n
