LETTER DATED 10 JUNE 1985 FROM THE PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVES<\/p><\/div>\n

THE NETHERLANDS, NORWAY AND SWEDEN TO THE<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE SECRETARY-GENERAL<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Member States participating in UNIFIL deem it necessary to express to you their deepest concern at the recent serious developments in southern Lebanon, in particular the taking as prisoners of members of the Force. These developments constitute an interference with the mission given by the Security Council of the United Nations to UNIFIL.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The troop-contributing countries wish to express their appreciation for the efforts you have already undertaken and they continue to support the use of your good offices to solve this problem and arrange the release of the prisoners immediately and without conditions.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The troop-contributing countries appeal to all Governments that have influence on those keeping United Nations personnel as their prisoners, to exert this influence so that the prisoners will be released without delay and unharmed.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The contributing countries recall that their letter of 28 March 1985 (<\/span>S\/17067<\/a>) underscored that certain essential conditions must he met for the Force to be effective.  The necessity of full co-operation with the Force was underlined in that letter.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Member States participating in UNIFIL should be grateful if Your Excellency could bring this letter to the attention of the Security Council and they have the honour to request that it be circulated as a document of the Security Council.  <\/p><\/div>\n
