Letter dated 12 November 1997 from the Permanent Representative of<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Two years ago, on the Hebrew date of the 12th of Heshvan, Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin was assassinated in Tel Aviv.  Today we honour his memory along with our entire nation.  Yitzhak Rabin was born in Jerusalem in 1922 and dedicated his entire life to the security of Israel.  He was the seventh Chief of Staff to the Israel Defence Forces and in 1967 oversaw the reunification of Jerusalem.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>As Defence Minister and Prime Minister he made tireless efforts to advance the peace process and the reconciliation between Israelis and Palestinians.  Israel is determined to maintain his legacy, especially the pursuit of peace.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would have the text of the present letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly under agenda item 37.<\/p><\/div>\n
