LETTER DATED 8 SEPTEMBER 1972 FROM THE CHARGE D'AFFAIRES, A.I.,
\nOF THE PERMANENT MISSION OF LEBANON TO THE UNITED NATIONS ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL<\/p><\/div>\n

On instructions of my Government, I have the honour to inform you of the following:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Between 5 and 5.30 p.m. today, 8 September 1972, 24 Israeli military aircraft carried out a raid against the communities of Rachayya el-Wadi, al-Rafid and Mukhayyam Nahr-el-Bared, in Lebanese territory.  The above-mentioned communities were indiscriminately bombarded with rockets and strafed by the aircraft.<\/p><\/div>\n

Preliminary information gathered following this act of aggression fixes the losses at:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Twelve Lebanese civilians killed, including 10 children, one man and one woman. Seven brothers and sisters were among the children.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Thirty-four Lebanese civilians wounded, among them 15 children.  The age of the children ranged between 8 and 15 years.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

Two Lebanese civilians reported missing. One of the two is the father of the seven brothers and sisters who were killed.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

This new and totally unjustified Israeli act of aggression was knowingly perpetrated by the Israeli forces against innocent Lebanese civilians.  It constitutes and additional flagrant violation by Israel of the armistice agreement between Lebanon and Israel, the United Nations Charter and the pertinent resolutions of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

This aggression is an act of defiance against the international community as well as the authority of the Security Council, which has condemned Israel on several occasions for its repeated acts of aggression against Lebanon and has emphatically warned Israel against any repetition of such acts.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

The Lebanese Government, while forewarning the Security Council against all contingencies, strongly protests against these new Israeli acts of aggression.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

I should be grateful if you would have the text of this letter circulated as an official document of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
