Identical letters dated 25 June 2013 from the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

 On Sunday night, terrorists from Gaza targeted the communities of southern Israel. Our citizens are once again under attack from a barrage of rockets. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

 The Security Council must unequivocally condemn the rocket fire aimed at innocent citizens without the usual calls for “restraint from both sides”. Both sides are not at fault. One side, and one side only, is guilty of continuously terrorizing innocent families. There can be no comparison between a terror group that targets civilians and a State that seeks to protect its civilians.<\/span> <\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

 Israel cannot allow this situation to continue. We will exercise our right to self-defence, as appropriate, and take all necessary measures to protect our citizens. There is a red line to how many red alerts the Government of Israel will permit. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

 The Council’s unequivocal condemnation of rocket fire would be a small but important contribution to making peace in the Middle East. After seven years, it is time for this Council to unanimously condemn the unprovoked attacks. There cannot be peace in our region until there is peace and quiet on Israel’s southern border. <\/p><\/div>\n
