LETTER DATED 24 MARCH 1980 FROM THE CHAIRMAN OF THE COMMITTEE<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

ON THE EXERCISE OF THE INALIENABLE RIGHTS OF THE PALESTINIAN<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

PEOPLE ADDRESSED TO THE PRESIDENT OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to refer to my letter dated 6 March 1980 <\/span>(S\/13832)<\/a> addressed to you in my capacity as Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, drawing your attention to the provisions of paragraphs 7 and 8 of resolution <\/span>34\/65 A<\/a> adopted by the General Assembly at its thirty-fourth session.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Since developments evolving in the occupied Palestinian and other occupied Arab territories, including Jerusalem, constitute continuing violation by Israel of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and since the date envisaged in paragraph 8 of General Assembly resolution 34\/65 is imminent, I have the honour to request that the Security Council convene urgently to consider the recommendations of the Committee.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I would stress that these recommendations have been repeatedly endorsed by the Assembly in its <\/span>resolutions 31\/20<\/a>, <\/span>32\/40 A<\/a>, and <\/span>33\/28 A<\/a> and are designed to initiate progress towards the solution of the question of Palestine, which has been recognized by the Assembly as being at the heart of the problem in the Middle East.  Peace and stability in the region are being increasingly menaced by provocative actions of the Government of Israel in the face of the desire of the international community to arrive at a peaceful and just solution.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>I shall be grateful if you would convene the Security Council ungently and if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
