Identical letters dated 4 August 2015 from the Permanent Representative of Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

On Monday night, in a hideous attack on civilians, terrorists threw a Molotov firebomb at an Israeli couple driving their car on the streets of Jerusalem. A 27-year-old woman suffered significant burns to her body, and three people were injured in total. This attack was a brazen attempt to murder Israeli citizens going about their daily lives.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

This attack follows the violent riots by Palestinians at the Temple Mount last week, who had amassed a stockpile of weapons to attack Jewish worshippers at the Western Wall. Several Israeli police officers who had come to preserve order at the site were injured.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Rather than seeking to calm the tensions, the Palestinian leadership continues its incitement of terror against Israeli citizens in Palestinian media, in its educational system and even in religious institutions. This incitement has fostered the environment that led to this violence.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

This terror attack is an opportunity for the Palestinian leadership to change course. Instead of praising terrorists as martyrs and treating them as heroes, they should condemn them as criminals. As I noted in my <\/span>letter from earlier today<\/a>, regarding the horrific attack on the Dawabsha family, Israel does not hesitate to clearly and unequivocally condemn acts of terrorism and is committed to bringing the perpetrators of such acts to justice, no matter who they are.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

As I write this letter, there has still been no condemnation of this attack by any Palestinian leader. The silence is deafening.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

I call on the Security Council to issue a statement publicly condemning this heinous attack in clear and unequivocal language and holding the Palestinian Authority responsible for its ongoing incitement against Israelis.<\/p><\/div>\n

I should be grateful if you would have the present letter circulated as a document of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
