\t<\/span>I have the honour to transmit herewith the text of a statement issued on 8 August 1988 by a spokesman of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Japan on the deportation of Palestinians from Israeli-occupied territories and the administrative detention on Mr. Husseini (see annex). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would arrange to have this text circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 37 and 40 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council. <\/p><\/div>\n

Statement issued on 8 August 1988 by a spokesman of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

of Japan on the deportation of Palestinians from Israeli-occupied territories and the<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

administrative detention on Mr. Husseini<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

1.\t<\/span>Despite the strong appeals made to Israel by the international community, including Japan, no improvement has been made in the grave situation in the West Bank and Gaza Strip under Israeli occupation since December 19 and the number of victims continues to increase. Japan condemns the deportation of eight more Palestinians by the Israeli Government on 1 August from the occupied territories to southern Lebanon, as this act is in defiance of Japan's appeal and of international condemnation, including that expressed in Security Council resolutions. This act further aggravates the situation in the occupied territories. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

2.\t<\/span>On 31 July, the Government of Israel also placed Mr. Feisal Husseini under administrative detention. This measure goes against the efforts being made by those concerned to achieve peace through dialogue and Japan is seriously concerned over this matter. <\/p><\/div>\n
