the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

to the Secretary-General<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People has authorized me, in my capacity as Chairman of the Committee, to convey to you its grave concern at the latest action taken by the Government of Israel in finalizing its plans to make Jerusalem the capital of Israel.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>This action by Israel not only demonstrates its contempt for international law but is a deliberate violation of <\/span>Security Council resolution 476 (1980)<\/a>, adopted as recently as 30 June 1980, which, <\/span>inter alia<\/u><\/span>, urgently called upon Israel to abide by Security Council resolutions and to desist forthwith from persisting in the policy and measures affecting the character and status of the Holy City of Jerusalem.<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>It is also in violation of paragraph 9 of resolution <\/span>ES-7\/2<\/a> adopted by the General Assembly on 29 July 1980 at its seventh emergency special session, in which the Assembly:<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>“<\/span>Further demands<\/u><\/span> that Israel should fully comply with all United Nations resolutions relevant to the historic character of the Holy City of Jerusalem, in particular <\/span>Security Council resolution 476 (1980)<\/a> of 30 June 1980.”<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\t<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Such actions prove that Israel, in spite of its protestations, has little intention of helping progress towards a peaceful settlement of the Middle East problems.  By its violations of international law, and by its defiance of United Nations resolutions, Israel is posing an increasing threat to international peace and security.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Committee is strongly convinced that the Security Council should now examine practical ways and means in accordance with the relevant provisions of the Charter of the United Nations, to secure full implementation of Council resolution 476 (1980).<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would have this letter circulated as a document of the General Assembly, under item 24 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
