\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>I am sending you the latest information concerning Israeli settlement activity in the occupied Arab territories during May and June 1983. This activity, which contravenes the principles of international law relating to military occupation and, in particular, The Hague Conventions of 1907 and the fourth Geneva Convention of 1949, consists of the confiscation of Arab land for the establishment of new settlements.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>I need not stress the dangers of the continuation of such a policy for peace and security and for the prospects for peace in the region.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would have this letter and its annex circulated as an official document of the General assembly, under item 69 of the provisional agenda, and of the Security Council.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tIsraeli settlement activity during May and June 1983<\/u>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>Duing May and June 1983, the occupation authorities established two settlements, as follows:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Adora. Construction work began on 1 June 1983. It is situated on the road to the settlement of Kiryat Arba in the Hebron area.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Gir. Construction work began on 3 May 1983. It is being set up on a piece of land with an area of 1,300 dunums and is situated to the east of the city of Hebron.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>During these two months, the Israeli authorities also confiscated 30,680 dunums of West Bank land in the following manner:\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>On 2 May, 10,000 dunums of the lands of the villages of Shofa, Kur, Bait Lid and Saffarin, Nablus district, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>On 7 May, 1,600 dunums of the lands of the village of Aqraba, Nablus of the lands of Al-Issawiyah, Jerusalem the lands of the village of Bait Ummar, district, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>On 17 May, 7,000 dunums district, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>4.\t<\/span>On 8 June, 80 dunums of Hebron district, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>5.\t<\/span>On 9 June, 7,000 dunums of the lands of the village of Al-Burj, Dura district, Hebron area, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>6.\t<\/span>On 17 June, 5,000 dunums of the lands of Al-Zahabidah and Raba, Jenin district, and Talfit, Nahlus district, were confiscated.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>7.\t<\/span>The Israeli authorities notified the population of the village of Kubar, Ramallah district, of the confiscation of thousands of dunums of their untreed lands situated between the village of Kubar and Bait Illo. The Jerusalem newspaper Al-Sha'b<\/u>, of 1 July 1983, which carried this news item, did not mention the size of these lands.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
