Letter from Lebanon"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>Letter dated 1 November 1988 from the Permanent Representative of<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><strong><u>Lebanon to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>On instructions from my Government and further to my earlier letters concerning repeated air raids on Lebanese territory, I have the honour to inform you of the following:<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>1.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At 11.45 a.m. (local Lebanese time) today, Tuesday, a squadron of Israeli fighter planes attacked the eastern outskirts of the city of Sidon, particularly the village of Krayyeh and Mieh Mieh camp, causing considerable material damage and killing two people and wounding a further 20, not counting those still buried under the rubble.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>2.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>At the same time, six Israeli fighter planes bombarded the cities of Al-Naima, Armun and Al-Damur, 15 kilometres to the south of the capital city, Beirut.&nbsp;&nbsp;The extent of the human and material losses is so far unknown.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>3.<span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Israeli aircraft continue to overfly Lebanese airspace, flying at low altitude over cities and towns in the south and the mountains of Lebanon.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Lebanese Government reiterates its strong condemnation of Israeli air raids, which now total 6 attacks in less than 10 days and 25 attacks since the beginning of 1988.&nbsp;&nbsp;Over 70 people have died and several hundred more have been injured in these raids, and many homes and public buildings, including a school and a hospital, have been destroyed.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Lebanese Government has warned repeatedly of Israel&#39;s intentions of stepping up its attacks on Lebanese territory in order to win the votes of Israeli electors; this intention has now become an almost daily reality and its aim has become clear beyond a shadow of doubt, since the latest two Israeli attacks occurred on the day of the elections in Israel.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The temerity of Israel&#39;s civilian and military leaders, the continuation of their policy of aggression, by means of further aggression, and their indifference to the loss of innocent human lives and the material damage caused by their attacks call for vigorous condemnation by the United Nations and the Security Council and the adoption of urgent, definitive measures, which the Government of Lebanon has been requesting for some time now, to deter Israel and force it to implement United Nations resolutions and abide by the Charter of the Organization, international law and international covenants and agreements.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>The Government of Lebanon reserves the right to request a meeting of the Security Council and maintains that it is collusion, silence and lack of interest that are encouraging Israel to pursue its policy of aggression against Lebanon, the Lebanese people and those who have settled in Lebanese territory.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre;
