Letter dated 2 September 2008 from the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People addressed to the President of the General Assembly <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

  I have the honour to inform you that, by a letter dated 7 July 2008 addressed to the Chairman of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People (see annex), the Permanent Mission of Nicaragua expressed interest in Nicaragua becoming a member of the Committee, to which it had already been granted observer status. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

  The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, at its 311th meeting held on 2 September 2008, welcomed the decision of Nicaragua and approved its request. In the view of the Committee, this reflects the growing international support for its efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just and lasting settlement of the question of Palestine. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

  In light of the above, and since the membership of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People has been established by the General Assembly, I have the honour to request that you bring the matter to the attention of the Assembly for its approval. <\/p><\/div>\n

  I have the honour to address you in reference to the status of Nicaragua on the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People, over which you so honourably preside. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Nicaragua has historically put forth positions in favour of the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, which the Committee upholds. It has favoured a just solution to the Palestinian question and, for some time now, our country has been active in the Committee in the capacity of observer. <\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

  Because of the history of Nicaragua in upholding the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, and the particular interest of the Government of National Reconciliation and Unity of my country in this regard, I am writing to inform you of our interest in becoming a full member of the Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People. <\/p><\/div>\n

  I express my gratitude to you for putting this request forward through the established practice and procedures of the Committee. <\/p><\/div>\n
