Letter dated 22 May 1990 from the Permanent Observer of Palestine<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I am instructed by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which has the powers and responsibilities of the Provisional Government of Palestine, to bring the following to your immediate attention:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>According to Israeli television broadcasts, it was announced on 17 May 1990, that the future settlers of the new settlement Dogheet, west of Jabalia Refugee Camp in the occupied Palestinian Gaza Strip, established two weeks ago, will be depending on fishing as their main source of income.  Conscious of the fact that the fishing industry plays a crucial role in sustaining the livelihood of the citizens of Gaza, this will ultimately lead to a severe reduction in the production of the fish industry in an area where natural resources are already scarce and is suffering from severe economic difficulties and poverty.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\tThe establishment of Jewish settlements in the occupied territory constitutes a violation of the obligations of the occupying Power, Israel.\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of this letter circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under items 23, 35 and 77 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
