Letter dated 18 September 1995 from the Permanent Representative of<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

Israel to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to inform you that in the course of the debate in the International Meeting on Mine Clearance that took place at Geneva from 5 to 7 July 1995 a statement was made by the Egyptian delegate to the effect that prior to its evacuation of the Sinai Peninsula Israel had not provided Egypt with the relevant maps indicating the location of minefields in the evacuated areas.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I wish to bring to your attention that Israel has taken up the matter with the Government of Egypt and following those contacts Israel was assured that the contents and the spirit of the statement made at Geneva did not reflect the position of the Government of Egypt, and that Egypt had no grievance, in that respect, towards the Government of Israel.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>It should be further stressed that Israel had acted on the issue of mine clearance in the Sinai in accordance with article 6 (4) of annex 1 of the Peace Treaty between Israel and Egypt.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>I would be grateful if you could circulate the present letter as a document of the General Assembly under item 46 of the provisional agenda.<\/p><\/div>\n
