Letter dated 27 November 1989 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i.<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

of the Permanent Mission of Lebanon to the United Nations<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>On instructions from my Government and further to our previous letters concerning Israeli practices in southern Lebanon, I have the honour to inform you that the Israeli occupation forces have prevented 10 Lebanese families, whom they had previously evicted from their farms in southern Lebanon, from returning to those farms, informing them that a public road was being built through the farms and that the adjacent land had been fenced off with barbed wire and mined and that they should renounce all thought of returning to the farms.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>These and other families were evicted from their farms in Chabaan in the Al-Arkub area in April 1989. In total, some 300 family members have been affected, and seven farms. These farms occupy a strip of land three to six kilometres wide and five to ten kilometres long. The families are at present living in Chabaan and adjacent districts.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\t<\/span>The Lebanese Government requests that representations be made forthwith to the Israeli authorities that they desist from these inhuman practices against the civilian population and permit those families that were forcibly expelled to return to their farms and their homes.<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you could have this letter distributed as a document of the General Assembly, under agenda item 37, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
