The right of the Palestinian people to self-determination<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The General Assembly<\/i>,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Aware<\/i> that the development of friendly relations among nations, based on respect for the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples, is among the purposes and principles of the United Nations, as defined in the Charter,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span><\/span>Recalling<\/i><\/span> the International Covenants on Human Rights,<\/span>1<\/u><\/span>\/<\/span> the Universal Declaration of Human Rights,<\/span>2<\/u><\/span>\/<\/span> <\/span>the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples<\/span>3<\/u><\/span>\/<\/span> and the Vienna Declaration and Programme of Action adopted at the World Conference on Human Rights on 25 June 1993,<\/span>4<\/u><\/span>\/<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling also<\/i> the Declaration on the Occasion of the Fiftieth Anniversary of the United Nations,5<\/u>\/<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Recalling further<\/i> the United Nations Millennium Declaration,6<\/u>\/<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Expressing<\/i> hope for an immediate resumption of negotiations within the Middle East peace process on its agreed basis and for the speedy achievement of a final settlement between the Palestinian and Israeli sides,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Affirming<\/i> the right of all States in the region to live in peace within secure and internationally recognized borders,<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>1.\t<\/span>Reaffirms<\/i> the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination, including the right to their independent State;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>2.\t<\/span>Expresses the hope<\/i> that the Palestinian people will soon be exercising their right to self-determination, which is not subject to any veto, in the current peace process;<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>3.\t<\/span>Urges<\/i> all States and the specialized agencies and organizations of the United Nations system to continue to support and assist the Palestinian people in their quest for self-determination.<\/p><\/div>\n
