  The Security Council resumed its consideration of the item at its 5388th meeting, held on 16 March 2006 in accordance with the understanding reached in its prior consultations, having before it a letter dated 14 March 2006 from the Secretary-General addressed to the President of the Security Council (S\/2006\/161). <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  The President, with the consent of the Council, invited the representatives of Lebanon and the Syrian Arab Republic, at their request, to participate in the consideration of the item without the right to vote. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  In accordance with the understanding reached in the Council’s prior consultations, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 39 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to Serge Brammertz, Commissioner of the International Independent Investigation Commission. <\/p><\/div>\n
