In the dark, pre-dawn hours of the day, at least 100 Israeli tanks and armoured personnel carriers raided Nablus from four different directions. The occupying forces fired machine guns as they entered the city, while a number of tanks were positioned to seal off any exit from the city. Moreover, several explosions were set off in the Old City of Nablus, as the occupying forces raided several homes and buildings, and the occupying forces also took over an elementary girls’ school in the city as their base of operations. It has been reported that, thus far, the occupying forces have abducted and detained at least 35 Palestinians in Nablus. Further, according to comments made by the Israeli army, this most recent raid, assault and reoccupation of Nablus will be a long-lasting operation. This latest military action by the Israeli occupying forces follows the raid just yesterday carried out in Tulkarem and an adjacent refugee camp, in addition to the countless acts of Israeli military aggression that have been perpetrated against the Palestinian people in recent weeks.

During that period of time, the Israeli occupying forces continued to systematically violate the human rights of the Palestinian people by all means and methods. As is apparent from the tragically lengthy annexed list of martyrs, the occupying forces killed Palestinian civilians, including children and women, on an almost daily basis during the past few weeks, as they have perpetually done so for more than two years now. These killings included several extrajudiciary executions. In addition, a number of those who died during this time, died from critical wounds sustained in earlier attacks as a result of the persistent use of excessive and disproportionate force by the Israeli occupying forces against the Palestinian civilian population.

At the same time, the Palestinian people continued to be subject to the destruction of their homes, properties and infrastructure by the Israeli occupying forces. Moreover, the occupying forces continue to raze roads and to dig trenches in and around several Palestinian cities in an effort to obstruct movement into and out of them and effectively isolate them. In addition, harassment and violent attacks by illegal Israeli settlers in the Occupied Palestinian Territory against the Palestinian people have continued unabated. Recently, such settler violence has involved repeated attacks on Palestinian farmers, particularly in Yanun, which is south of Nablus, and the theft of their olive harvests. In addition, in several instances, the settlers have repeatedly prevented Palestinians from reaching their land and harvesting their crops and have burned and damaged their olive trees.

Further, Israel, the occupying Power, continues its military siege with the ongoing imposition of severe restrictions on the movement of persons and goods throughout the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, even during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan.
