Letter dated 26 May 1992 from the Permanent Observer<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

of Palestine to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I am instructed by the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, which has the powers and responsibilities of the Provisional Government of Palestine, to bring the following to your immediate attention:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Israel, the occupying Power, remains persistent in its acts of violence and terror against the Palestinian people living in the occupied Palestinian territory.  During the past few days, the Israeli occupying forces opened fire in several Palestinian camps in the Gaza Strip and in Nablus, killing three Palestinians and injuring 33 others.  Among those injured was Nidal Agha of Khan Younis, a nine-year-old boy struck by a military jeep, and he is in critical condition.  Fatemeh Kurd of Gaza, a six-year-old girl, also was struck by a military jeep and sustained severe injuries.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>These criminal actions represent flagrant violations of human rights, the provisions of the Fourth Geneva Convention of 1949 and the relevant Security Council resolutions.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Time and time again the Palestinian people requested international protection for those living under Israeli occupation in the West Bank and Gaza, including Jerusalem.  The situation has escalated to an extent that it necessitates immediate action from the United Nations.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under agenda items 30, 35 and 74 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
