Letter dated 28 May 1981 from the Permanent Representative of Israel<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I wish to draw your urgent attention to yet another vicious attack by PLO terrorists on Israel civilians, which resulted in the death of one person and serious injury to another.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>This latest outrage took place on 26 May 1981 when a hand-grenade was hurled at a civilian truck on a road outside the town of Gaza.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>As usual, the PLO took responsibility for this lawless act.  It did so in a statement broadcast on 27 May over its radio in Lebanon.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>In this connexion, I should also like to draw your attention to the discovery on 7 May 1981 of two explosive devices in a wood near Dimona, in which hundreds of local people were picnicking in celebration of Israel's Independence Day.  While defusing the device a police sapper was injured.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The PLO immediately took responsibility for this incident, which could have had extremely grave consequences, both on its radio in Lebanon and also from Damascus.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>No comment is needed on these callous acts of pure and indiscriminate terror, so completely in line with the PLO's deliberate policy, followed since its inception, of mindless bloodshed and attempted murder of innocent civilians in crowded public places and on the open road.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Such criminal behaviour, whether successful or not, is that of a group of international terrorists, and not, by any stretch of the imagination, that of an organization claiming to be a "national liberation movement".<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to request that this letter be circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under item 33 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
