to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>In my capacity as Chairman of the Group of States members of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, I have the honour to transmit to you the text of the message from the Secretary-General of the Organization of the Islamic Conference regarding the recent acts of aggression perpetrated by Israel against the site of the holy Al-Aqsa Mosque, and to request you to have it circulated as an official document of the General Assembly, under the items entitled "Situation in the Middle East" and "Report of the Special Committee to Investigate Israeli Practices Affecting the Human Rights of the population of the Occupied Territories", and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

Message dated 17 January 1986 from the Secretary-General of the<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

Organization of the Islamic Conference regarding the recent acts<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

of Israeli aggression on the site of Al-Aqsa Mosque<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to inform you that the Sixteenth Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, held at Fez, Kingdom of Morocco, from 6 to 10 January 1986, expressed deep concern over the illegal entry into the Al-Aqsa Mosque by some members of the Israeli Knesset under the protection of Israeli police. This was a provocative act which aroused the indignation of Muslims all over the world.  The Sixteenth Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers adopted a unanimous resolution on this issue and directed me to convey the contents of the resolution to you immediately.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I trust that the international community will take the necessary measures to ensure that the holy places of Islam under occupation by Israel are not desecrated. The text of the resolution is reproduced below:<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"The Sixteenth Islamic Conference of Foreign Ministers, held at Fez, Kingdom of Morocco, from 6 to 10 January 1986,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"Alarmed<\/u> by the news of the ignoble attack on the Al-Aqsa Mosque on Wednesday, 8 January 1986, by a group of Israeli Knesset members under the protection of Israeli police,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"Having heard<\/u> the statement made by the delegation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan,\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"1.\t<\/span>Hails<\/u> the valiant stand of the residents of Al-Quds Al-Sharif against this heinous attack and their brave defence of the sanctities of Al-Aqsa Mosque and Islamic shrines;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"2.\t<\/span>Condemns<\/u> these repeated, wicked, criminal attacks on Al-Aqsa Mosque which are supported and protected by Israeli occupation authorities;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"3.\t<\/span>Warns<\/u> Israel of the dire consequences of these repeated attacks.  Meanwhile, the Islamic States remain committed to discharging their duties, using all ways and means, to put and end to these Israeli acts of aggression;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"4.\t<\/span>Emphasizes<\/u> its determination to support the steadfast stand of Al-Quds Al-Sharif, using all possible ways and means;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"5.\t<\/span>Places<\/u> on the international community the responsibility for preventing Israel from repeatedly committing such abominable crimes, which constitute a violation of United Nations resolutions and international law and conventions;\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>"6.\t<\/span>Requests<\/u> the Secretary-General of the OIC immediately to contact and convey this statement to the Secretary-General of the United Nations, the President of the Security Council, the five Permanent Members of the Security Council, and the Director-General of UNESCO."\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n
