addressed to the Secretary-General<\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I wish to draw your attention to the latest act of Palestinian terrorism that has claimed the life of yet another Israeli civilian.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Yesterday evening, at approximately 7.30 p.m. (local time), the vehicle of Doron Ziserman, age 36, came under fire from a Palestinian terrorist near the entrance to Einav. Ziserman was hit in the head and neck and died of his injuries a short while later. Ziserman was one of two Israelis killed yesterday; the killing of Danny Yehuda was detailed in my letter dated yesterday, 18 June 2001 (<\/span>A\/56\/97-S\/2001\/604<\/a>).<\/span><\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>These attacks also come as continued Palestinian attacks imperil the tenuous ceasefire to which both sides agreed last week. Over 40 incidents of gunfire, thwarted terrorist bombings, and other types of attacks or attempted attacks have been reported since the ceasefire took effect.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Nevertheless, Israeli forces are continuing to implement their responsibilities under the Tenet plan by refraining from any military action against Palestinian targets and by acting to alleviate the situation of the general Palestinian population. Israeli troops have redeployed from a number of locations and roadblocks have been dismantled, opening roads to Palestinian traffic. In addition, the international crossings at Rafah and Allenby have been opened to Palestinian commercial and civilian traffic.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>Israel calls upon the Palestinian leadership to adhere to the terms of the ceasefire as outlined in the Tenet plan and to take immediate and concerted action to control all acts of violence emanating from the territory under its control.<\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would arrange to have the text of the present letter circulated as a document of the fifty-sixth session of the General Assembly, under item 179 of the preliminary list, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n
