\n\t\t\t\tLetter dated 28 February 1994 from the Chargé d'affaires a.i. of the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I have the honour to transmit herewith a statement made by the Official Spokesman of the Ministry of External Affairs of India on the massacre of Palestinian worshippers in Hebron in the occupied territories (see annex).<\/p><\/div>\n

\t<\/span>I should be grateful if you would have the text of the present letter and its annex circulated as a document of the forty-eighth session of the General Assembly, under agenda items 34 and 35, and of the Security Council.<\/p><\/div>\n

          Statement concerning the massacre of Palestinian worshippers<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

          in Hebron, made by the Official Spokesman of the Ministry of<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

External Affairs of India on 26 February 1994<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Government of India strongly condemns the massacre of Palestinian worshippers yesterday in Hebron, in the occupied territories, by an Israeli gunman, and conveys its sincere condolences to the members of the bereaved families.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Government of India calls upon Israel to take immediate and effective steps to ensure that such deplorable criminal acts do not recur, that culprits are brought to book and that the lives and properties of innocent people in the occupied territories are protected.<\/p><\/div>\n

<\/p>\n

\n

\t<\/span>The Government of India fervently hopes that all concerned will adopt the path of restraint in bringing down tensions so as not to vitiate the climate of peace and tranquillity so essential for the Middle East peace process, which has now entered a critical phase, to succeed.<\/p><\/div>\n
