    Held in private at Headquarters, New York, on Friday, <\/strong><\/p><\/div>\n

\n

  In accordance with rule 55 of the provisional rules of procedure of the Security Council, the following communiqué was issued through the Secretary-General in place of a verbatim record: <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “At its 5418th meeting, held in private on 21 April 2006, the Security Council considered the item entitled ‘The situation in the Middle East’. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “Pursuant to the decision taken at the 5417th meeting on 21 April 2006, the President, with the consent of the Council, extended an invitation under rule 37 of the Council’s provisional rules of procedure to His Excellency Mr. Fouad Siniora, Prime Minister of Lebanon. <\/p><\/div>\n

\n

    “Members of the Council and the Prime Minister of Lebanon had an exchange of views.” <\/p><\/div>\n
