{"id":176405,"date":"1986-01-10T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2019-03-11T20:19:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/?p=176405"},"modified":"2019-03-11T20:19:09","modified_gmt":"2019-03-11T20:19:09","slug":"auto-insert-176405","status":"publish","type":"document","link":"https:\/\/www.un.org\/unispal\/document\/auto-insert-176405\/","title":{"rendered":"Mideast situation &#8211; Letter from Israel"},"content":{"rendered":"<div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><u>Letter dated 9 January 1986 from the Acting Permanent Representative of Israel<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:center;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><u>to the United Nations addressed to the Secretary-General<\/u><\/p><\/div>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>In recent letters we brought to your attention the brutal acts of murder by the PLO and the terrorist killers it inspires. Innocent civilians were the targets of these brutal terrorist attacks. I would like to bring to your attention that in the most recent terrorist attacks in the Rome and Vienna airports on 27 December 1985, children were intentionally chosen as victims.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>A young girl was killed and six children were wounded in these attacks. Some police investigators stated that when one of the terrorists spotted 11-year-old Natasha Simpson, the daughter of the American reporter victor Simpson, he began shooting burst after burst of bullets in her direction from his Klachnikov assault rifle.&nbsp;&nbsp;The girl fell to her knees and the terrorist hurriedly fired another burst at her head.&nbsp;&nbsp;After wounding her father, the terrorist turned towards her six-year-old brother and also succeeded in wounding him. The terrorist spotted other children and began shooting at them; these were the children of Michiel Sausas, a Jordanian citizen; all four were injured. According to reports, Dino Fariente, an Italian Jew of Moroccan descent, said:&nbsp;&nbsp;&quot;I saw one of the terrorists throw a grenade and I saw the look in his eyes. When he shot into the crowd he was trying to kill children&quot;. In the attack in Vienna a nine-month-old Israeli baby, Michael Jana, was wounded (his father was killed in the attack).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>These events once again prove the murderous character of Palestinian terrorists, those who do not shrink from killing children.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\"><span class=\"Apple-tab-span\" style=\"white-space:pre; font-size:smaller\">\t<\/span>Following are some examples of past terrorist attacks in which children were the victims:<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">24 November 1985 &#8211; Three local Arab children were killed in the explosion of a grenade thrown at the customs house in Tulkarm.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">23 November 1985 &#8211; Nine children were killed in the rescue operation of an Egyptian passenger plane hijacked to Malta. (Another 51 people were killed and 31 injured.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">23 October 1985 &#8211; A month-and-a-half-old baby was injured when a bomb exploded in the Afula market (four other civilians were also injured).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">28 September 1985 &#8211; A local Arab boy was killed by a grenade thrown at a vehicle in the centre of Hebron.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">19 July 1985- Five children were stabbed and wounded by a terrorist from Dura in the centre of Jerusalem.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">24 June 1985 &#8211; A bomb explosion in Neve Yaakov, Jerusalem, wounded a boy.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">2 July 1984 &#8211; Small arms fire directed at an Israeli car in Jerusalem wounded several children.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">29 June 1983 &#8211; In an explosion in a Jerusalem supermarket, two girls were wounded.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">9 October 1982 &#8211; A Jewish baby was killed in a terrorist attack on a synagogue in Rome, (34 others were injured).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">17 September&nbsp;&nbsp;1982- Forty-five students were injured by a car bomb in Paris, France.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">29 June 1981- Two Jewish children were injured in a terrorist attack on a synagogue in Vienna. (Two others were killed and 17 injured &#8211; all Jewish.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">29 July 1981- A bus was attacked in the entrance to Kibbutz Ma&#39;ale Hahamisha near Jerusalem. A boy of 12 and a girl of 17 were wounded.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">19 July 1981 &#8211; A boy of 17 was killed (and 15 people injured) from Katyusha bombardments on western Galilee.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">17 July 1981 &#8211; Two girls were wounded in Katyusha bombardments on the Galilee.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">8 April 1981&nbsp;&nbsp;&#8211; A grenade was thrown at a wedding hall in Jerusalem.&nbsp;&nbsp;Two children were wounded (as well as a local Arab driver).<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">9 August 1980 &#8211; A bomb exploded in the Jerusalem Canada park, wounding a child and four other people.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">27 July 1980 &#8211; A Jewish boy from France was killed and others were injured when terrorists threw grenades at a group of children in Antwerp, Belgium.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">6-7 April 1980 &#8211; In a bloody PLO attack on Kibbutz Misqav-Am, a two-and-a-half-year-old boy was murdered (as well as a soldier and the kibbutz&#39;s secretary); four other children were injured.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">27 November 1979 &#8211;&nbsp;&nbsp;A child was killed in Athens when terrorists threw a grenade at an EL AL office.<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">22 April 1979 &#8211; In the terrorist attack on Naharia a child and his father were murdered, along with another girl. (A policeman was also killed and four people injured.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">24-25 June 1974 &#8211; Three terrorists in Naharia murdered a boy, a girl, a woman and a soldier. (They also injured 5 soldiers and a civilian.)<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">15 May 1974 &#8211; Twenty-four civilians, most of them children, were killed, and 62 wounded when terrorists look over a school in Ma&#39;alot. (A soldier was also killed and four persons were injured. )<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div style=\"color:#000000;text-align:left;font-size:11pt;font-family:Times New Roman, serif;\">\n<p style=\"margin-top:0px;margin-bottom:0px;\">11 April 1974 &#8211; Eight children and eight other civilians were murdered when terrorists infiltrated into Kiryat Shemona.
