“Instruments and institutions of international treaty law – theory and practice”
The Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People will convene the United Nations Roundtable on Legal Aspects of the Question of Palestine on 15-17 March 2016 in Amman, Jordan, under the theme “Instruments and institutions of international treaty law – theory and practice”.
The aim of the Roundtable is to develop the capacity and expertise of the Palestinian Government in the field of international treaty law.
The Roundtable will focus on subjects of international treaty law, including provisions, mechanisms for implementation, reporting obligations and other practices. Participants will be familiarised inter alia with the international institutional framework and review the current status of the State of Palestine in relation to international legal instruments; discuss the opportunities and strategies for the State of Palestine to engage with these instruments on the international arena; learn from relevant best practices in the application of these instruments and the fulfilment of related reporting obligations; and be introduced to the audio-visual library of international law of the United Nations Office of Legal Affairs.
The three-day event, conducted in the form of interactive sessions led by experts in the respective fields, will be held in closed-door format, and under Chatham House Rule.
