“Al-Khalil/Hebron – A case study for the impact of Israeli settlements on Palestinian rights under occupation”

The UN Palestinian Rights Committee will organize the Virtual Event on “Al-Khalil/Hebron – A case study for the impact of Israeli settlements on Palestinian rights under occupation” on 27 April 2022 from 10.00 a.m. to 12.00 p.m. (New York Time), via WebEx. The event will be organized as a panel conversation – moderated by H.E. Mr. Arrmanatha Christiawan Nasir, Vice-Chair of the Committee and Permanent Representative of Indonesia to the UN – with civil society representatives. Mr. Hisham Sharabati, Palestinian Human Rights defender, Ms. Ines Abdel Razek, Advocacy Director of the Palestine Institute for Public Diplomacy, Mr. Sulaiman Khatib, Director of International Relations for Combatants for Peace, and Mr. Avner Wishnitzer, co-Founder and Member of Combatants for Peace, will highlight the impact on the rights of the Palestinian people of Israel’s ongoing illegal settlements in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem, with a focus on Hebron as a case study. In particular, the event will discuss the consequences of the continued settlement expansion, its overall impact on the Palestinian population and the concomitant increase of Israeli settlers’ violence and harassment against Palestinians.
Participants will consist of Committee Members/Observers and the panellists. All Member States, intergovernmental and civil society organizations as well as the public and media will be invited to follow the event and pose questions. While participation in the virtual platform will be limited to UN Member and Observer States as well as the panellists, the general public can send their questions via the Committee Facebook page, Twitter account, the email dpr-meeting@un.org and WhatsApp (+1 646 421 0579).
