With Support from the Saudi Fund for Development, UNDP Disburses Compensations for Totally Damaged Housing Units in Gaza – UNDP Press Release

Gaza, 17 May 2017 – With financial support from the Saudi Fund for Development, UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People was able to disburse compensation payments, amounting USD 1 million, for 89 non-refugee families whose homes were totally damaged during the 2014 hostilities.
The payments are a result of the recently signed amended memorandum of understanding between UNDP and the Saudi Fund for Development for the amount of USD 18 million to reconstruct 281 totally damaged housing units in addition to five playgrounds and one cultural centre.

It is worth noting that the United Nations Development Programme signed a memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for a total amount of USD 31.8 million funded by the Saudi Fund for Development. The fund covered rehabilitation works for 12,401 homes, which were selected based on the criteria agreed upon with the Ministry of Public Works and Housing, in addition to furnishing and rehabilitating three schools in the Gaza Strip.
