With Support from Saudi Fund for Development, UNDP Disburses Compensation for Damaged Homes in Gaza – Press Release

Posted on May 16, 2019

Gaza Strip, 16 May 2019 – Around 133 non-refugee families will be able to reconstruct their totally damaged homes in Gaza following UNDP’s disbursement of the second batch of payments of US$ 746,000 through the supporting reconstruction of homes for Palestinians in the Gaza Strip project.

In its fourth year of implementation, and with support from the Saudi Fund for Development (SFD), the project will enable 275 families by 2019 to reconstruct their houses, which have been damaged following the Gaza 2014 hostilities, and improve their livelihoods. The self-help modality will be used during the project and female-headed households will be prioritized, while taking into consideration family size and current socio-economic status.

It is worth noting that the United Nations Development Programme signed a third amendment for the memorandum of understanding with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) for an amount of US$ 10 million funded by the Saudi Fund for Development. This brings the total SFD contribution to US$ 71.5 million, benefiting approximately 13,195 families from the Gaza Strip.
