East Jerusalem, 03 November 2020 – The British Consulate General in Jerusalem and UNDP’s Programme of Assistance to the Palestinian People signed an agreement worth £2 million GBP for the development of a multi-year programme that will strengthen effective and accountable governance, and increase the responsiveness and transparency of Palestinian systems, services and processes. The agreement was signed on 03 November 2020 by Colleen Wainwright, Development Director at the British Consulate General Jerusalem and UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, Yvonne Helle.
Development Director at the British Consulate General, Mrs Colleen Wainwright said “‘We are happy to engage with UNDP to deliver this timely project. The TEA programme is designed to help deliver on the Middle East Peace Process (MEPP) objectives that include prioritising PA’s institutional development, improving accountability and promoting transparency to preserve the political viability of a two-state solution.”
The three months inception phase will be used to inform the strategic direction of the programme and the necessary building blocks required to address interventions in the areas of fair and inclusive economic opportunities; transparent and accountable public resource Management; improved access to services / utilities; and promotion of international norms and transparency.
UNDP Special Representative of the Administrator, Yvonne Helle highlighted that while it is imperative to develop institutional capacities, it is equally important to enhance public trust. “We are proud to be part of this programme as it is core to accelerating the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP will draw on its extensive experience and network to strengthen cooperation and promote collective action towards transparency and responsiveness”.
